Clean Slate: Day 1 Of class, Day 2 of being in Paris, as well as Getting Around Town. 5/31/2022
Today was a productive day for me. On the first official day of class, today we went over the syllabus and had a nice lunch, eating some steak and French fries with a dessert called Dark Chocolate Fondant (kind of like lava cake). I am adjusting to the time change well. It still is kind of weird to wake up when my friends and family back home are falling asleep, but that’s working out fine because I’m still finding time in my busy schedule to have a conversation, whether on WhatsApp or Snapchat. Going to class today, I thought it would be a little bit of a challenge to find where we were meant to go. But I was wrong. I rode the Metro Bus system today, and my life was easy. All I had to do was scan my bus pass, and boom, I was on the bus. The app “City Mapper” was the thing that made it easy: it tells me when the Metro is coming and when exactly to get on and off. I also went grocery shopping today, and it was small, but more on that in tomorrow’s blog, where I talk about expectations versus the reality of Paris so far. However, I also went into a bakery today and Jeepers to stay in the food mood. It smells incredible in that place; it’s out of this world how great it was. Speaking of greatness, tonight at about 9:45pm my time, I plan to watch two of the greatest tennis players, Nadal and Djokovic, face off in the Roland-Garros quarter-finals match, trying to prepare myself for seeing the Roland-Garros on Friday. But once again, that’s a story for another day. Man, I’m just teasing you with things to look forward to now, and no, I’m not sorry. To conclude, although this is day 1 of class, I’m really finding my footing here in Paris, and I’m happy to take you on my journey with me until next time, au revoir.
