6/24. TGIF. Meals that changed me for good.
Happy Friday, readers! Before I get going with today’s blog, I want to take the time to thank those who have been giving me words of encouragement and sharing their thoughts in the comment section about what they just read. Today’s blog will be a bit of a throwback to the last night in Paris and the meal that changed me.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was our last night in Paris, and we went to a place where the only option on the menu was steak and fries. The waitstaff only asked, “How do you like your steak?” and “What do you want to drink?”. You might look at me funny, like, “How was this the meal that changed you from Paris and Rome”? Well, let me explain. I am a very picky eater, and I can think of one time before this when I had a steak. The taste of the steak was something extraordinary. I ordered mine medium well, or as they say in French, “À Point.” The crispy steak was straightforward to chew. Something I wasn’t expecting was for two portions to come. A mountain of fries on my plate with 2 steaks. I felt like I was in a food coma after that point. But back to taste.
I don’t really know what the steak was dipped into on top of my head, but it added to the charm. I personally made a mess. I’m not afraid to admit it. You could tell I never really had steak before because the sauce dripped off my fork, making almost a puddle around my plate. The steak was easily chewable. For dessert, I ordered a chocolate cake. It was nothing like Bill Knapp's cake, but the sweetness was a match made in heaven. Call me crazy, but I wanted more steak after about an hour of being home from dinner. I did not get any more. But this meal really hit the spot. It also made me think of a critical point related to this trip: you must get out of your comfort zone and try new things. The classic saying, you never know until you try a phrase, can be thrown down here. If I hadn’t traveled abroad, I would not have expanded my tastebuds to this glorious steak dinner, among other things. I can’t wait to go home and order some steak and fries because that was an insane dish.

Conclusion:
Looking ahead into next week, this is what to look forward to. Monday: We will revisit something I thought I wrote about a few weeks ago: impressions of sports media in Europe/ with some pictures from Castel Gandolfo and our beach day. Tuesday will be my First-person narrative project That will put a bowtie on this beautiful adventure we were lucky to share with each other. But until Monday comes, Ciao.
So excited that your taste buds are awaken. It takes a great deal to tip your tongue into something new
ReplyDeleteI imagine there were many aspects of this trip that took you out of your comfort zone , from navigating through the airport(s) by yourself , first solo flight was international , the foods , the language, the cultures , and perhaps just taking away from your normal day to day activities . You are correct . If you never try , you never know . I see tremendous growth ( in your writing and how you approach your days events ) just in the past 3 weeks . Keep it up.
