Day 17 arriving in Rome and early observations. 6-15

    Today was really a day to settle into the second place of the trip, Rome. Got into town at about 3:00 today. I unpacked first, then went to a restaurant and got some Cacio e Pepe. Some of the best-tasting pasta in my lifetime. There’s a picture down below. I now want to get into something completely different than Rome. In our apartment, there can only be so much electricity because this place is “old,” after all. We have learned within a few hours that the power is minimal. At the time of writing this, we’ve already had to reset the system 3 times, at least to my knowledge. This shows that we honestly take advantage of our electricity in America. Many times back at home, we have multiple TVs running, lights on in different rooms, the air conditioning blasting on a hot day, and, let’s say, the shower is running. We can do that in America, but here in Rome, well, you are out of luck with that whole proposition. I have so much left to explore before I can truly dive into this matter, but I can tell you that things will be turned off or unplugged when they are not in use to save power. I’m excited to explore what this fantastic place offers over the next 11 to 12 days, whether through a sports journalism perspective or just living life. Tomorrow, we visit the Italian Olympic Committee, and I am stoked. This is one of those once-in-a-lifetime opportunities. There might not be a lot of pictures allowed to show you tomorrow, but I will do my best to explain the importance of the place. But until then, I will leave you with my dinner this evening. This study abroad was an eye-opener when it came to sports media before going on this trip. I’m not going to lie to you; I was so focused only on ESPN when it came to sports journalism. Growing up in America, when people ask what you want to do in sports, most people respond, “I want to be on SportsCenter or work with ESPN.” That’s great, but thanks to this study abroad program, I’ve realized I’m not fully exploring my bubble. Italian Rhythmic Gymnast Elisa Blanchi: competition Routine and life after. 6-21-22

  Meet former Italian rhythmic   Olympian G ymnast  Elisa Blanchi. Elisa is 34 years old now. She started when she was just three years of age. To her name, she has 100 international medals, including five gold results at the world championships. She has appeared in three Olympic games: Athens when she was just 16, Beijing in 2008, and London in 2012. Her training is no joke. She would wake up, train for eight hours, and then go to school.     In these types of competitions, Routine was essential to Elisa, especially on the day of the competition. It would start early in the morning with makeup and some good food; she then would head to the SportsCenter, where she gets some training and relax before the match. Before I get going with today’s blog,  I want to take the time to thank those who have been giving me words of encouragement and sharing their thoughts in the comment section about what they just read. Today’s blog will be a bit of a throwback to the last night in Paris and the meal that changed me.  -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------     It was our last night in Paris, and we went to a place where the only option on the menu was steak and fries.
